Any tips on activities in Thailand?

So I'm going to Thailand in 11 days for a month, which will be my first trip outside of Sweden and Finland. (Bah.. Finally!) Have any of you been there and have you got any suggestions for activities or places to visit? I'll mainly be in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Bangkok and I'm most interested in the nature/culture, party places ain't all that important.

Btw, no suggestions of buying prostitutes is needed, that's a given! /jk!

Heh, that's so weird, I'm reading The Beach by Alex Garland right now and it's got exactly what you need to do in Thailand... go find the beach. It's paradise... Eden even! Except you'll need to get a depressed Scot to draw you a map before he cuts his wrists; but I mean that shouldn't be too hard should it?

Kudos to whoever understands what the hell I'm rambling about and/or has read the book/seen the movie.

Yeah they pretty much grow on trees

But it seems The Beach @ Phi Phi maybe is too far away from where we will be traveling

Well I don't personally know a whole lot about Thailand, but the Thai Tourism site has some pretty good information if you're into the whole "guidebook" type thing: http://www.tourismthailand.org/

But then, if you're heading there for a month, I'm sure you've already done some research and have seen this site... it was the 2nd result in google when searching "Thailand"

Thanks for the link! I have actually not visited that site, or anyone else for that matter. My brother is going to be my guide over there, he's got some good ideas, but he's more of a party person

Please please please don't go on the first class air con trains, They put gas through the air con that puts everyone to sleep and then mug them, My sister lost Â£1000 by doing this and she leant by it. Make sure to buy lots of stuff from the island people as you will find that most of them make everything from stuff they find. (Quite touching when you hear story's)

Try to go over to Bali, It's worth it!

Oh and the beer out there is about 11p a pint!

Yeah, beer should be cheap in Koh Samui too. When my brother was there for 2 months (when the tsunami occurred) he said they bought beer for 2 kr (Swedish crowns) which is $0.25. That's pretty much the same price as a piece of gum. They often got refills for free without asking too. So cheap beer is a given!

Krabi seems to be too far away from where we will be traveling also, so I'll have to see when we arrive if that'll happen.
