No he started on MSX, since thats Japanese only, we (and you) got it on the NES. And Metal Gear didn't take off until MGS on PlayStation.. and is not memorable on any other console as far I care.
Same for Crash Bandicoot and Sypro, their glory days end with the games being exclusive.

i didnt realy catch who nathan hale or jan templar were, or jack and daxter, or even 'sackboy'.
