1) It gets hot after being on for a while. Maybe not burning hot, but hot enough to tell.

2) It has three connections: The back is a metal ground, usually the width of the regulator to varying heights. Then an in and an out, occasionally with aground out the front, although it's trimmed on some/most because it's redundant.

3) It's a black square, about 1 cm squared. Look for that.
I know what the 7805 is., and how to use it. I was just saying that I wasn't using a ps1/zenith screen.

And I'm saying that you'd be much better off pulling 5V from the DVD screen to power the SuperJoy 3 than running it from the batteries. It'd be much more reliable. You're new, I'm starting from square one. Sorry for helping...

(Also, this DVD Screen can accept A/V in, right? An analog signal. And you're sure the guts that accept it aren't integrated in to the motherboard of the DVD Player instead of just the screen, right?)

yes it accepts A/V in. If you look at one of the photobucket links I posted, It has Mario playing on it.

Well, I am going to have to wait until I continue on the electronics side. I accidenly succeded in ripping a microscopic trace on the main board clear off. I'll have to buy another sj3 now.

Just solder a thin wire to both sides of the trace and you are in business again. I had to do this once.

I should have mentioned before, people are saying about using 5v for the PJ3 - you will notice that your SJ3 takes 4 x AA's and doesn't like rechargeables? That's because it needs 6v. Lower than that and the video can be garbled. I tried it before. 5v isn't enough, although the amperage is fine, plug'n'plays I tested were about 220mA or so.

That is why these units are happy with 7.2v Put it this way, the plug'n'play carts I made before all needed 4 x AA's and all run happily off 7.2v Li-ions.

Not surprisingly. Fresh alkalines can easily be over 2V each.

Well, I tried several tiems to fix the superjoy, but could not repair it....So while I wait for a ne sj3 to arrive, I will be thinking of a name. Since the portable is using a pirate famicom, re-used "green" parts, and a clamshell style dvd player case, I would like to combine the names. So far I have "Famigreen", "Famiclam", or maybe "Famboy". Any ideas? Also what is a good paint color that doesn't show mistakes easily?

I kinda like Famiclam.

And paint it a bright green. Hides flaws rather well, with my experience.

OK the new sj3 came. now I have a question. There are two boards, the main one, and the one with controlls. What do each of the pins on the main board(the ones that lead to the ribbon cable) do? I want to bypass the controls board to save space.

No pic, but the cart slot faces up, and the controller faces up.
When put in the case the ribbon cable folds
I dont have one anymore to show a pic
