I was wondering if anyone could help me get started in console modding. I want to make a portable system as my senior project but am still undecided to what project i should do. I have covered DC/AC circuits, Analog Electronics, and am currently studying Digital Electronics (Already have some experience with logic gates; counters, shift registers and memory devices; combinational and sequential logic circuits). The only requirements/instructions we were given are...
1. Pick a project (circuit) to build. The harder the project the better the grade.
2.With your circuit you must build the power supply to power your circuit (if needed) if the project is meant to be battery powered that is ok.
3.You must draw a professional drawing of the circuit and power supply.
4.You must construct your circuit (or working concept) and power supply and it must be functional.
5.Write a procedure on how your circuit works and how to operate it.
6.Make parts list.
7.Make cost sheet for making one.
If anyone could help me with ideas on which project would meet the requirements above and is realistically difficult (this is my first time attempting any type of modding so i am unsure as to what i am capable of) or know where a good place to start researching i would be very thankful. I was considering using an old snes console since after reading some posts it seems to be a good start and i also considered trying to make a portable gamecube since it would just be really cool. Also i found a zenith universal lcd screen which could be useful?

A great guide is Ben's book. If you don't have that, you might want to buy it.
Make a portable NES. They're very easy to portablize. Don't go with the Gamecube, those are ridiculously hard.
Good find with the Zenith screen, and if you already have a SNES that's fine, you can use that. You'll also need batteries, and a controller, of course. Something to put it all in, as well.

Its not due until the end of the school year so i think i have until June 2009. Also soldering is no issue. I cant remember who made it or what he called it but i saw someone use a ZN-40 case. The end result was very sleek and also a good size. would using that case be ok or is it too small to use with the old super nintendo and the 5" lcd screen i found? I'll look into the forums you suggested but where can i find this book?
