There's very often no need to actually start an argument, yet people do it anyway. I think all Sponge was trying to say was that the aggressiveness of the board members seems to be increasing, which your responses here seem to also be supporting. We're not saying that you shouldn't speak your mind, but being openly aggressive about it is the real problem at hand. Too many people saying "Oh, that sucks" about something that someone spent a lot of time working on, or "why would you even think of making such a stupid thing?" These statements are hurtful, and I think those are the statements that get most people's attention as being negative.
And no one singled you out for spelling, either. Personally, if I were the "spelling police" or whatever you said, I'd say yours is acceptable, compared to posts like "i wnet to the bahtroom adn it wuz fun!"
I think Sponge is just saying that the fun, friendly attitude the forums once had has turned into a bunch of flame wars, which some might enjoy and some might despise. I'm sure there's some merit to all that is being said here. But I don't think anyone should say "Hey! I have the right to offend people." Not cool.
When did anyone make fun of anyone else's portables?

Edit, reading sparks post
Ok, I would to talk to ben, cause i can get really cheap webhosting and bandwidth would probobly not be a problem at all, also guys im just in a really bad mood right now, take everything i say with a grain of salt I respect "some" of the members on this forum, others not so much, but i wont get into that, anyways please dont complain about every little thing in real life you will have to deal with some things, god knows i deal with enough...

It has been done before. There was one thread where cennar (I think) was talking about his Gamecube in an NES case, and Peppers had to pipe up and call it a crappy idea or something, and this led to a bunch of arguments. cennar himself didn't seem pissed off about it and took the side that people should give their opinions. Personally, I wouldn't have made something like that, but I think there's a way to do it without being offensive and a way to do it with being offensive, and that second way is the problem. Peppers just basically said "I can say what I want." I'm not saying that he can't, but perhaps he shouldn't, especially if it doesn't help anything. Same goes for you, or me. As Sparkfist pointed out, a lot of info is here for those who look. Just asking straight out for info without looking for it first is really a sign that one isn't committed to doing anything. I mean, a google search if nothing else would probably turn up most or all of the info here.

Edit: Sorry to single out certain people there, it was just to illustrate the example that I was thinking of when I wrote my previous post. Don't mean to open old wounds, so to speak.

I think that telling someone to do a search should be the end of it though. No need to get angry about it. And rather than "Go do a search, newbie!" it should be said more like "This information was already here. Please direct your attention to thread (URL here)."
Not trying to make everything P.C.- I hate that as much as anyone. But I don't think going around being offensive on purpose just because you can say what you want is helping anyone either.

Edit 2: Sam, we're sorry you have problems. We all do. Just last week I thought my fiancee was pregnant. Not that that'd be a really horrible thing, but her mom would rip my wang off. All I'm saying is that we can make a little effort to make things a lot nicer around here. And I say that knowing that I'm likely one of the people Sponge had in mind as being negative. Therefore, when I post, I will try to think "Does this help? Am I posting this to make someone feel bad? What is the reason for making this post?" And if I forget that at times, sorry.
...spelling and grammar nazi's...
Then I guess I should give out a big "Seig Hein!" to my English teacher.

However, I am also a bit annoyed by all the "chat room" quality typing going on here by the new members and guests. (I am a fairly new member, but I try to use proper English.) I mean, I could just as easily launch AIM to see "That lazt potable been mayd wuz kool!!!!1!!one!!111!", LOL, BRB, and SNIFOTCDCALAYSATS. (Go to my newest thread if you want to guess what that last one means!)

As far as apologies go, you should apologize, just as you would to someone face-to-face. However, you should really MEAN it, not just SAY it! (call me Mr. Rogers. I don't care. :) )

I just think there are a lot of people out there who should just take the extra time to read over a message before posting it. That's the trouble with the world; everyone is in such a hurry.

Exactly. I don't think what was asked of us was too unreasonable. But apparently some others may differ in that view. Regardless, seeing as I have class to get to, I should go. I hope some good comes from this thread, and I hope I haven't offended more people trying to say "Let's make an effort to not be so offensive." :)

Many times have I written up and entire post only to close that tab before posting it. I've been trying to cut back on my posts as well, but it appears with the increased membership and general posting my "posts per day" is steadily increasing (although my post percentage seems to be staying the same which indicates that I'm still keeping with my original ratio of posts :))

lately, I've been doing that a bit, as well :P..........but it's mainly 'cause usually I'll have to leave or I'm too tired (I've been REALLY busy with schoolwork and other things lately :() to edit my post to sound like exactly what I want to say.....(and check for spelling errors :P)

speaking of spelling......as long as you TRY to spell right and DON'T post in leet, I'm not complaining.......
speaking of complaining (:P):
sam wrote:Seriously, things ARE controvercial, things WILL bother you, but guess how far complaining will get you in real life?, noone likes complainers.
so you're saying that if something bothers youu, you should keep your mouth shut? what if Martin Luther King, Jr. believed that? or what if Martin Luther believed that? (btw, I'm not of a protestant religion if you're wondering)
so I belive that if there's something wrong, we should complain, and then figure out a way to fix it, as spongebuell did :).......so complainers of the world....UNITE :P!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what you meant really, but I thought I'd get that point out anyway : P
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Think about it.

And I am a complainer, im just good at it, and i dont sound like whiner..... WHICH NOBODY LIKES. those kind of people are up there with the kids who tell the teacher that they forgot to assign homework......

Ok, just to clear something up: I was late for something when writing my last post. Reading it again, I think I cut it short a bit too early. Sorry sam if I was a bit too harsh or "hateful" if you will. I was in a rush and typed that really quick. Just to make sure there isnt any unneccesary hate. Ok?

And about speaking your mind, some people just dont like to hear it, fine? This isnt directed at you sam, just everyone in general. Not everyone wants to hear "OMG DI|> Y()\/ c m| pWNing <()()|_ Th|/\/G!!!11one1eleventy-one!11!" Just think about it before you post a message. I for one would like to see a sentance with proper spelling, I dont want to have to break the code of idiocy to read what a poster is saying, and Im sure this is the same with other people to.

About bandwidth, Im not sure "buying more bandwidth" is the way to look at this. Im sure Bens spending his money on beer, and will continue to, so the current hosting here to stay. Make due with what you have. The solution to the issue shouldnt be buy more stuff, it should be conserve what you have at the moment.

Again this isnt targeted at anyone at particular. Just to make sure...

Anyway. Thats it.

I'm saying I might be able to get him better/ more affordable hosting so he can continue to buy beer. Also how many posts CANT you read, im sure some have aol type talk, but 99% don't. And when they do there new users and you guys scare them off by flaming them about there typing, look around, you'll find it.

this is just my opinion but....

I havent even been to the boards in nearly two weeks because I was literally exhausted by how childish the majority of the posts were. All the on topic sections stay fairly coherent. But I do like to peruse F42 for anything that may not be console related. I understand this is the area for anything else, but at times its ridiculous how incredibly off topic things get. I would say that 70% of the posts in here lack substance, and at times it seems as though there is a "clique" that a few of you are flaunting yourselves in. I am particularly tired of hearing "I have a hojillion posts and I spend all day everyday here." Because really that doesnt mean dick. I have less than 200 posts. But I am proud of that. Because every one of my posts contains something I believe to be productive.

From what I gather, many of you are in your early to mid-teens. Which is fine. I am glad that you are eager to learn, but don't act like since youve been here longer than another person, you know more than they do. Try to conduct yourself with some tact, and for gods sake, be classy.

I was particularly disappointed in the "Who is the best here?" topic. Save the jerking off contests for the gamefaqs boards.

Most of what needs to be said has been said. But you should all take the time to deeply consider this:

We're all human. I can't think of a single person here I don't like. "Newbies" and "Seniors" and us middle guys alike. But we all have bad times. When my friend died a while back, I was a total ass to some online friends of mine, and they didn't know why. I wasn't letting them know anything. And it was wrong. It ended a few good relations I had. We said things we didn't mean and couldn't take them back.

If you are mad though, we can't read your mind. We can only know what you type.
So what I'm trying to say is: Be considerate. No matter who you are.

Well lets see. I was a spammer back then but never chat room like. O hate all of the new members not reading up. In the old forum we read like every post within the last 365 days before posting. Also I know some of you guys are talking about me. I lash out at people. its my nature(well not really) Simply put I have recently developed a hormone inbalance(high levels of testosterone) it makes me edgey andpissed. A word to the wise- If you do a sport dont over train I have become under wieght and developed a hormone inbalance.
