Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.
I have this Acer Aspire 3050 and here's my situation.
I have my unit's air intake covered by a black piece of plastic by the manufacturer. 75% of the intake is covered. What is it doing there, blocking airflow? And why would Acer do that? Wouldit be good to remove it?:?
Do you mean the intake on the left side?
Or does your look different?
Otherwise there should be no problems with that since they probably have done stress tests with it before launch.
I would say it's a cosmetic choice, they simply don't want a gaping hole in their computer.
If it's the manufacturer, it's either not a problem or a glitch.
And if it's the latter case you might as well check to see if they are doing a recall or a fix for the problem.
Really you shouldn't have to worry too much. You only need to worry if you run your laptop tight in a corner or on a plush/shag carpet, which will cause what limited cooling it does have to be stopped.
