hi all,
i have a laptop that was fried on new year's eve (the goold ol' champagne down the screen into the case trick) and a little puff of smoke came out followed by a blank screen. toast oh well nothing to be done about it.
now onto my question(s).
I would like to take the keyboard and screen and change them into a USB format. is this possible?
on another note, has anyone tried to put BOTH a 360 and PS3 into a tower case? and if so was it a good outcome?

Keybaord: Maybe. Depends on what kinds of board it is. I scrapped a laptop once where the trackpad was PS/2. Even if they keyboard is a simple matrix, you can use the encoder from a cheap USB keyboard.
Screen: Uh-uh. Not gonna happen. You need a controller board for it, there may be parts of it that need to be repaired thanks to the spill, and you'll also need a USB video adapter. By the time all is said and done, you'll have spent enough to buy a good new LCD. If you want an additional LCD screen on the cheap, you might get lucky with a 'broken' one on eBay. For example I have a 3 year old Dell LCD I got for free because it was 'broken', and all it needed was 3 new capacitors on the power supply board.
You can reuse the hard drive (another laptop, USB enclosure, 2.5" to 3.5" adapter, etc) and memory (if you have another laptop that can accept it). The battery might be hit or miss; if the laptop can still charge it and you can safely run things off it, you might be able to use it for a project. However, if it hasn't been plugged in in the last 11 months I doubt it could hold a useful charge.
Of course you can reuse the speakers and other basic components.

i am not going to be using the laptop for anything other than parts. the mobo has too many "scorch" marks on it (nothing like the smell of burnt components!).
i plugged the screen into a similar laptop and it did work so that is a plus. the battery does charge but the computer does not power up at all.
when this all happened i soaked up as much as possible, flipped it upside down to drain, and even tried to stick in the freezer (yes it is possible to freeze the stuff and scrape away) but by then the damage was already done.
right now i am just interested in the screen and keyboard for a possible laptop mod using parts that are already on hand.
