Taking a job?

Okay, long story short, I just got offered a job. We just had a Verizon store open up in town, and when I went in to buy a new phone, the guy behind the counter was impressed with mah skillz and asked if I would like a part-time job there. It'd be $9 an hour plus commission. Thing is, I'm already going to Chinese class 2 days a week after school for 3 hours, the school musical is fast approaching, and I can barely find enough hours in the day as-is to get all my studying/homework done. After all, this is the last "technical" year that I have to maintain my high GPA, as next year I'll be taking slacker classes.

The extra money would be nice, though, and it'd be a hell of a lot better as far as jobs go than most places around here...

I dunno. What would you guys do in my situation?

I'd go for it. $9 an hour is a lot of money (I make $9.50, fool) and people that are our age and don't have jobs piss me off...I'm not really sure why.

Come university, I regretted not working. I had so much money that I didn't have that I needed to spend. Lucky I didn't make it and stayed back a year to retake courses and work.

Tuition and textbooks alone cost me around $7500. And those $500 of textbooks came from MY pocket. Then, if you decide to get a car, there's gas, insurance, touch-up paint

...

You don't really think it's going to be as much as it is until it hits you. So my advice, get the job, drop the musical, and save up. The musical won't cry if you're not there.

What do you mean people our age cant get jobs?
Just work Under the tabel for 5-7 and make as much as 9ers

Well, I could work elsewhere and make about that much, but it would be far less entertaining. Come on, talking about tech stuff and getting paid for it? For me, that's like getting paid to talk about my political ideologies.

See if you can just work on the weekends or something. Find a way so you still have time to do everything. See how flexible they are, if they like you, you'll work it out.

Depending on your classes, you could not do your homework and let your GPA slide a bit. I've probably spent an average of less than an hour a week on homework all through high school (excluding major projects). I'm a senior now, my cumulative GPA is still a 3.1, and I've taken fairly dificult classes.
You could also quit coming here so often, it seems to me that you're on quite a bit (like I have any room to talk...).

What kind of things did you do to show off your skills? My mom has been wanting to switch service providers, so I could go with her to help and show off my skills.

I'm on 11.77 USD an hour, (9.21 euro), work 9 hours every sunday and have made about 4,000 euro in 5 months. (Worked full time during the summer) Since I work sundays I get time and a half, so I actually get about 17.66 USD (13.82 euro) an hour.

I am in the biggest year of school, am working in a job, sports and homework/study. And am loving it. Try it mate, if it works for you your laughing, if it doesn't, what's the worst that can happen? You ask him can you work after the exams full time for the summer.

Go for it.

Not only will you be earning a salary, but that work experience will really help once you graduate and go out looking for a full-time job.

The worst that could happen is you don't have enough time. In which case you can just quit the job, no harm no foul.

go for it, it'll come in useful later in life

More experiance, better CV, more chance of getting jobs in the future

when i was younger the hardest thing was trying to get a job when you hadnt had one before, the first step on the ladder is the hardest so seeing as you've got some offering you one, it'd be silly to pass it up.

And if you hate it, or dont have time for it, you havent really lost anything and hopefully you've made some cash in the mean time

You're asian, of course you can handle having a job in addition to crazy school and all that extracurricular stuff.
