Wiring up your own ethernet switch/Hub

Does anyone know of or if there is an online guide or know how to wiring up your own ethernet switch or hub? I plan on using Ben's How to on making an A/V switcher and thought it would be nice to add an ethernet switch in the same enclosure since all these new systems can hook up to the net these days. I'm not sure if this is even possible but any help would be appreciated. Thanks

A switch and hub are very simple. You usually have ports 1 through whatever as the LAN ports. Be sure to notice where your WAN port is, it will be moved away from the others, sometimes a little sometimes a lot. Also when connecting computers for the LAN it's not really necessary to have then in any order.

Other then is basic stuff, keep the cables straight. Try to keep them from crossing other wires/cables like an "X". And if possible you should make your own to be sure they are the proper length.

Sparkfist, I think he's talking about building one. (Which is really pointless, since you can buy a 5 port 10/100 switch dirt cheap these days.)

It would be cheaper to just buy one but I'm not to concerned with saving money as I am with saving the space. I think I'll just buy a cheap hub, rip it apart and put the guts into my AV switcher box.
