In need of major help

When I was about to hook my N64 up to power I noticed that one of the little capacitors by the power plug directly on the board was damaged. So I tried swapping it out with one on a different 64 that had died. When I power it on with no game or jumper pak it turns on and the light comes on and everything. But when I put the game and jumper pak in it won't power on and the light doesn't come on. Anybody know what the heck is going on? and I'm assuming you've checked to make sure you didn't put it in backwards?

Its ceramic so it can't go backwards.

Sounds like the symptoms of a sleeping N64.

Check the sticky to find out how to wake it up.

Ok so I went to the sticky to definitevely test my N64 and I followed those steps of taking things out and powering for so and so. Now it does turn on with the game and jumper pak but now my tv goes brown when I do. So now any ideas? and thanks for the advice so far

You probably put the jumper pack in backwards the first time... you dont have the top plastic shell on right? It goes in either way without it. When its backwards it shorts out the power supply.

If the LED comes on and you get a brown screen, you are probably in the clear... just try taking the game/jumper pack out and back in, letting it sit, restarting it a few times... praying.

Thanks for the help It now works

. I have a different problem now that I bet you guys and all your expertise can solve! I hooked the video from my Zenith PS2 screen up just like skyone and harshboys diagram (nice job on that by the way) and it powers on fine but im getting no video or sound. would the width of the wire affect that at all? because im using hdd cable wire.

Did you connect the ground too? Does the screen work with other things?

Learnt this the hard way - use general purpose wiring for any video, audio, ground (common) and button contact wiring, thicker 3amp wires for positive and negative battery power lines and also if relocating capacitors or LED's.

Yeah when I bought it I made sure that it worked by testing it on my PS2. So the video signal just isnt working because of the wire. Thanks i'll try thicker wire to see if that works. To power the 64 right now im using the 7.5v 1500 mA power cord that cme with the screen that I just attached an r/c connector on the end and that powers it, but is it enough power?

Probably not, you really need 3 amp wire to be safe. Your system needs more than 1.5 amps to run.

But my 3300 mAh Ni-Mh battery wont power it when the screen is hooked up so I guess I just need a bigger battery with like 4200 mAh or more so that they both power and I get some good run time, even though i've been told multiple times that my 3300 would power my portable.

Uhh, does the screen backlight come on? Are you sure you have the right wires connected?

Yes , 7.2v 3300mah should power it fine.

Sometimes it does and like purple lines scroll down the screen like static or something like this http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picturebn4.jpg. So do you have any idea what I might have hooked up wrong?
