Ps1 Power help

I need help with making my ps1 portable. I have the original ps1, w/o the attached screen. so far im not having any problems, but (as you see in the picture) there is another chip, browish colored, that is taking up space. im guessing that this is just a big voltage regulator. is there any way i can get rid of it? (its where the power input goes)

for making a portable, use the 'mini' psones. they dont have the brown chip thing.

im not sure what it is, i think you called it the voltage regulator, but wahtever it is, the newer psones dont have it.

I think that's a rectifier. (It takes the AC current and inverts half the power wave so you get a steady DC current.

Eliminate the brown power supply cable entirely. If you have a multimeter (and you should), test to see what kind of voltages you get out of it. There might be a PSU pinout in the sticky somewhere.
