Resolved: A topic that I know you guys can help me with!
Alright, so, my speech class is having a debate tournament. And, the topic is
Resolved: That violence in video games, movies, and television has contributed to a more violent society.
Now then, I know that most, if not all of us are against this, and would gladly debate for the negative(con) side for this, but I have to be able to debate both. So, I know you guys could help me out with this one, as I have seen various articles on the subject posted here, so...yeah. Any one have any attack plans, evidence, or sources they would like to share?

Remember that song my the Boomtown Rats (ie Bob Geldof): "I don't like Mondays"?
That was about a female teenager who played violent video games (pretty sure it was, didn't read up on the Wiki though) and then went to her school on the Monday morning and let rip with a gun killing and wounding many of her fellow students. I don't remember the whole story, lyrics to song: link more about it here: link

Fight them by looking up statistics. Check the FBI, I know they have information that says there has been a decline in teen violence since the early '90s. Tell them about how many murders there have been going back as far as 1900.
If you throw that stuff out there, anyone that tries that, "Well people tend to get caught up in the fantasy, and pretty soon fantasy become reality. And you have a kid shooting up his school", will have to shut the hell up.
Really people don't have any sense of history anymore. You can even bring up the fact that while Booth was on the run after shooting Lincoln, a mob grabbed a guy that looked vaguely like Booth. They were about to hang him when one of the crowd yelled, "That's not booth, I know who that is." But some in the mob cried out, "Lets hang him anyways!"

I think you missed the point. He has to argue that they do cause violence regardless of whether or not he believes it to be true.Sparkfist wrote:Fight them by looking up statistics. Well if you can't bring yourself to prove that video game violence does promote real violence, you can still offer evidence that there is a possibility.
Pull out those studies about learned behavior. That should be all you need.

Oh, I won 3rd place out of 16 teams today!
This was a tournament at R.B. Stall Highschool, not the one I'm participating in class.
