So you make a mould for plaster, then when removed, bore out the block to make sides and a thin topping, then sanded it into shape? (is that right?) Isn't the plaster going to crack or break fairly easily?

Tapered down on shoulders and the face to mimic the controller(and the L64

) Unfortunately I did some stupid things trying to get the plastic away from the plaster.

I made the mold wrong and the plastic wrapped the plaster too tightly. I tried to cut a hole in the center with the dremel so I could leverage it off, but all I accomplished was messing up my mold. I then got really mad (you know how it is) and literally tried cutting some corners. It worked, and after talking to hailrazer, I decided on using ABS cement to fix it.

and then I cut the hole for the screen. That's it...

I'm such an idiot.

I live in an apartment without any space of my own so I put all the pieces of my project into their own respective baggies. I kept all the buttons, controller pieces that I cut out, superglue, and ABS cement in the bag.

*sigh* I didn't screw the lid back on. Everything in it was lost. The bright side is that I have four controllers, I was planning on using a second anyway, and the pieces I had cut out of the controller are already attached to the case. and the circuit board was in a different bag.

soo this is where I'm at now

Can I get some ideas on bondo? Which kind do you use and why is it the best? I see a lot of posts about certain kinds cracking and I don't really want those. And I'm just using it as a filler. thanks!

I reccomend the tubes of epoxy and such, none of that 2 part mixing stuff. It may be more expensive, but it is way better for portablizing. Like any bondo, dont spread it on too thin, or it will crack under pressure.

Yes, unless he is using a flat type joystick, like on the PSP.

I doubt that.

Actually, I think it will be interesting to see then control stick "down there" Almost every game that uses the D-Pad need it to be quick, this would kick @$$ for Kirby!

Sorry, no fancy controls. I worried about it being uncomfortable with the analog stick that low, as well, but figured I'm used to it like that when playing normally so I'd try it out. And it's high enough up that, while your hand can't hug it like a 360 controller, it sits far enough into your palm to support it fine. I fiddled with it during the length of the presidential debate

and it didn't feel awkward, but that could change with some real weight in it.

No, thats fine. You'll just have to get some experience with it and you'll see. If you get it super thin, sometimes it cracks, especially if there is some flexibility to it.

concerning your bondo question, Bondo brand urethane fillers are not the best products you can get, you can use just cement and spread it from the tube such a Shockslayer suggested. But if you want to be able to spread it and smooth it out with a "puddy knife" then you want a urethane filler(commonly referred to as Bondo). Rage Gold is a very good brand and just a few bucks more than Bondo, and is available at Autozone or Advance or Oriely's(usually). it doesnt crack or pop out like Bondo brand and doesn't clog up your sandpaper nearly as fast. it is a 2-part system with hardener. But fillers like these are only meant to fill in scratches and dents and uneven surfaces, its not meant to bond 2 pieces of plastic or metal together. and, without getting too lengthy, urethane fillers can not be applied on top of primer or paint, they dont hold. use 80-120 grit paper to ruff up the bare surface so the filler has something to grip on to. (credibility: i paint and restore cars and am ASE certified)

not much to report on, but it had been awhile. Just made a few holes.

I went to autozone to get some filler. I grabbed some Rage Gold stuff and something else in a tube to take to the register. When I asked the guy what he thought would be better he grabbed both out of my hands and said neither would work. He put them back and grabbed something else for me (plastic weld?)and started to ring me up. I was kinda offended so I mumbled something about him being a jerk and just walked out.

There's a Checker right next to it so I'll go there tomorrow if I'm not called into work. Also I made a plaster thing for the backside of the case.

Yeah, I got some Poly-Weld. It claims to weld instead of bond. A weld will be far stronger as it molds into the two surfaces, rather than sitting on it (like a glue) and providing the strength.

Not used my bottle yet, it does say not to inhale the vapour, etc; quite toxic.
