then you didn't rip him off. if it is a deal someone was offering as opposed to you making the deal, it's not ripping off. now, if you kept upping what he needed to trade you for it, then you would be ripping him off.

um... that's not exactly a good analogy. a trade takes two people to agree to the deal. murder does not.

Two thoughts strike my mind...
1) Was that kid perhaps, you know, slightly mentally challenged?
2) Or maybe he tried to get revenge to someone by trading away their stuff for nothing. (As seemed to be the case with the xbox)

Well, I am about to make a "fair trade". My best friend, after seeing my GBC Turbo, told me that he would give me his n64, controllers, and about 20 games if I made him an overclocked Game Boy. The GBC Turbo cost me about 9 bucks, so I would spend $9 on an overclocked Game Boy, and in return get a n64 bundle worth about $50-$55.

EDIT: A funny thing happened this morning. My friend calls and says "***hole!! I was reading your posts, and I saw the one in the topic 'have you ever ripped anyone off'."

To make a long story short, My friend thought the whole thing was funny, but now the n64 for gbc turbo deal is off.

Ah well, he says he'll buy an overclocked gameboy from me for $35 instead of the trade.

Ripping someone off is if you hoodwink them into agreeing to something you know is of special interest to you and are belittling their offer in order to perswade them to increase their offer by making them perceive that if they don't then you aren't getting a fair trade.

If someone says they will give you "X" for your "Y", if both parties are happy with the proposal, that is just trade and barter and above board; one party will always end up with a slightly better deal, after all, if both sides know the score and fully understand the values, and agree; it is a good trade.

I buy lots of items on car boot sales for very cheap prices. They ask a price they want for an item, I tell them what I am prepared to pay (much lower), we agree, I pay them, they give me the items. They have the option not to sell to me at the price I want to pay and I have the choice not to accept their offer price. Barter and trade.

I don't rip anyone off; hence why I have 803 ratings on E-bay and 100% feedback to boot.

Closest thing I've gotten to really ripping someone off would be when a kid willingly wanted to tried a GameGear game to me for a Jason (Friday th 13th) halloween prop, which the handle was held together with 100mph tape. I had him bring the game over, tested it on my system, it worked we traded and that's that. I heard from a friend of mine who lives down the street that the kid was almost crying riding his bike home. From what we both could get he though the game was broken. Oh well.

Really I don't try to rip people off. Maybe get more a little more then it's worth, but nothing extreme. For example if I were asked to fix someone's computer, and really the only thing of value I used, was one of my (legal) XP keys. I might ask for like $20, or something like that, on top of the labor. But as I didn't by the XP key or CD, charging them like $100 is just silly.

lolz, runescape, that was the only time I ever ripped people off because I was the only person who was good at it

I'm serious! I was only once ever ripped off for countless amounts of fake online cash and armor, and I have only logged on once since then.
