How do you cool it?

Those would work, but wouldn't be a very good idea. They are quite bulky and there really isn't that much room to use them without trimming probably. The VERY BEST place to get heatsinks (if you are like myself and have 100s of PC parts) is the chipset from mobos. They are usually the perfect size, come off easy, and best of all, they are FREE if you have scrap mobos laying around. I would suggest looking for some of those or finding some smaller ones that don't have fans attached to them. You don't need huge heatsinks or a huge fan, just make sure you have adequate air flow to the heatsinks and you will be just fine.

I'm wondering why so many people were saying before that you had to use heatsinks and fan or the system gets too hot. There were lots o f such postings on old topics in the N64 forum. Certainly It makes more sense to use the stock ones from the N64, metal plate and secure the cart slot. Makes life easier, cheaper and stronger.

Old heatsinks from old computers should be put on the 2(or one) ram chips and the GPU and CPU. If you are using the expansion pack, put one on there too. There existeth not an n64 that neads anything more.

So, If I make slits in the back of the case, will it stay cool enough?bacteria wrote:I'm wondering why so many people were saying before that you had to use heatsinks and fan or the system gets too hot. Will that keep it cooler? Or just make it look cooler?Neildo_64 wrote:Cutting/drilling some holes in it wouldn't be a bad idea if tools are readily available to easily do the job. It would probably cool well enough as is though.
And one more question: I heard that BT-42 batteries were recalled because they would overheat and catch fire! Is this true? I sure hope not. I already ordered one from eBay. (It was only $25 shipped, could that be why it was so cheap?)

Too thick? Trim them down. Not hard at all, just use a saw or mini-bolt cutters, or even a dremel if you have the right bits. Generic vent holes anywhere in the case should be fine(My 6th doesn't have any, there is enough room for heat to escape out through the holes around the buttons and screen and such. I've run it for well over 5 hours straight) You won't need anything else, take it from a pro.

You can get small heatsinks, ones for PC VGA memory; typically 6mm tall, although just found these, 4mm high:

Soooo many heatsinks, soooo many IDE cables, soooo much I could have used but he didnt want to give it to me.bacteria wrote:You can get small heatsinks, ones for PC RAM memory; typically 6mm tall.
