So I picked up a few parts for a small project with the NES. I was wondering if any of you have done this -
I would like to remove the RF modulator from a toaster NES. This NES actually took power input and output RF, audio, and amped composite video. Everything was done inside the shiny little RF box. (Technically I think the voltage regulator is outside the box, but I digress...)
So my plan is to remove the RF box, put a voltage regulator in there, build the little amp circuit (as mentioned in the book, I believe), add a power connector for the NES power input (or remove the one from old modulator to use it), and move the RCA outputs to the back of the NES instead of the side.
I believe there is enough room to put RCA outputs on the case where the RF output and channel switch used to be (with a tiny bit of case modding). I did something similar with a model 1 Sega Genesis and its RF switch openings on the case.
Anyone do this? I curious as to if this might have any effect on improving the composite output quality of the NES as it seems to pick up interference no matter what sort of high quality cables I use. I know that PPU isn't the best, but improved output (even the slightest) would be a nice side effect of the mod.
Thanks,
CK
Remove the NES RF modulator and use with TV

Sure, you can do this, but why would you? It would just look the same...

It might, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make.
If you're going to have it apart anyway, do the pseudo-stereo mod and a few other miscellaneous improvements as well!
