Don't worry, I'm not here to stay. Just popped in to look for more willing subjects to take my short sustainability survey. Results will be kept anonymous. Final essay to be read by the professor only.

1) Is the protection of endangered species a cause worthy of our (the human species) attention and resources? (yes/no)

2) China allows couples to have just one child, with few exceptions, as a method of population control. Would you welcome such a policy in your government? (yes/no)

EDIT: Ive trashed question number 3. It was reduntant and presented an overly simplified theoretical world.

"Yes" and "No" answers are only useful for a poll, not homework as such as I am sure you have to justify your comments and choices? (as you say, it is an "essay" after all).

So...

1) It was our strive to build civilizations and gather resources that put many species to being endangered in the first place. Worth saving an endangered species if they taste nice though. "Yes".

2) Such a policy is only enforceable in a totalitarian state ie a facist or communist state; not in the "free" world. The question is therefore academic as the countries where you have a choice, a government could not press for such a law and in countries you have no choice, you think as your government tells you to think...

3) If in your imaginary world "one half is covered by human development and the other by natural habitats" then there is no need to have a choice A or B as the state of separation already exists. If they have their half of the world, then they don't also share the other half, so therefore all of the human half would be devoted to society and food production (including animals of course, yummy!).

3) Imagine a world on which one half is covered by human development and the other by natural habitats. No free space exists. Would you A) choose to preserve the natural habitats around you at the expense of humans lives (starvation), or B) choose to build farms at the expense of the natural habitats? (A/B)

1 Yes.
2 Yes, if it was an issue in Canada. It's better than future crises or war/killing due to overpopulation.
3 A. Humans are disgusting creatures. One species is less than the all of the rest of the species on this planet.

Yes. Definitely. They are very rare and people will be sorry if they can't see them IRL.
