Neo Geo Pocket Color!

Post by vb_master »

Who here has a Neo Geo Pocket Color, and what games do you reccomend for it? I just picked one up for $25.

$25? Thats expensive. Get a fighting game, the ones I saw looked pretty cool for it.
When in Japan with access to just about every system ever made and those that have yet to see international soil, gather your forces, and make the cool ones your own.

Ebay priced, just cheaper with shipping. I got it at a local game store, and another one of those in the same chain has games for it, so I'm buying them all next week.

I'm supposed to buy an NGPC for my brother. They're dirt cheap here (about 10 bucks) but games are scarce. I found some website selling them for about $5-$10 per game, and if I can't find them, I'll tell him to buy the games himself :P I think he just wants it for Metal Slug.

Metal Slug is by SNK :? It's quite obviously on the Neo Geo and Pocket Neo Geo series.

I have Metal Slug and Metal Slug 2 or 3 I forget..it was a japanese import. The NGPC is my favorite portable out there. I highly recommend them.

I think the store has Metal Slug. No one ever buys them.

Metal Slug has small enough characters that you don't notice the horrible lack of colors and detail on the NGPC. The thing had a color palette that the NES could laugh at.

Edit: It appears the NGPC has awesome color support but most games didn't use them to preserve compatibility with the non-color units (all 5 ever made!)... so, yeah, kinda sad.

OK, there is NO shading on Sonic in that game. He consists of 5 colors (which the NES could do with two sets of palettes quite easily- Mario in SMB3 had more colors than that). Let's face it, the NGPC couldn't compete with the GBC and Wonderswan Color at all when it comes to graphics (at least when it came to GBC-only games. Some of the GBC/GB compatible games looked horrible). I'm not saying the games themselves are horrible- some of them are quite good and I wouldn't mind having an NGPC of my own. Just saying that it's no graphical powerhouse compared to... well, any other color portable :)

Well, sorry. Just saying. Anyway, I just bought 2 of these things, and now am on the lookout for games. If anyone decides they really want one, I can get one sent to America for $15, maybe slightly less. The two I bought are in great shape, but no box or instructions, system only. CR2032 battery might need to be replaced (one of mine was dead on purchase). Color choice is limited to clear and silver though (and of those two, if the store sells out, well... sorry. You can't have one of mine.) I'm having difficulty finding much of anything for the thing though, so I'm not gonna commit to any game sending.
When I get some games for it, I'll give thumbs up/down to them :)
