Nintendo Phone.

Nintendo Phone.

Post by boxerorange »

I am extremely interested in modding a phone and NES controller.

I would love to put the LG Rumor/Scoop into an original Nintendo Entertainment System controller, however the phone is expensive (cheapest I've seen without contract is $200); since I have only had my phone for a year I would like to not wait another year to buy this phone -- it could be hard to get then or maybe even not in production. My carrier is Alltel, so I believe I would need the "Scoop" model to use with them, and I am very unsure about their view on modifications to their phones (I am guessing they would be unhappy and not give me any customer support).

Anyways, the mod would involve making the Nintendo logo (on the front side of the controller) backlit, but only when the phone has been "used recently" and then have it automatically shut off like the screen. The actual phone part would be on the back of the controller, and then it would slide in half and the keyboard would be on the bottom half.

Here is a rough sketch.

If anybody could find/get me the phone for cheap, I would love you forever and pay you for all costs, possibly even a tip.

Almost two days and over 70 views with no reply?

Does anybody have anything to say about this?

Are you really surprised? We aren't a deal finding forum after all, and finding that phone seemed to be your only real quest with your post. Your mod wouldn't exactly be the first phone shoved in a NES controller either.

Anyways, best of luck with your project.

I know it isn't the first, I have seen a few videos on YouTube, but none this complex. I wasn't just looking for the phone either, I was expecting just feedback in general on things I might have overlooked or other obstacles I might run into. I have never even held a NES controller so maybe there's something about them I didn't know.

I just purchased two NES controllers on eBay for $9.99 and will be receiving those soon, so now I just need a phone to complete this project.

You are going to have a tough time. NES controllers are a good bit smaller than you may think. Heck, I am having a hard enough time trying to figure out how to mod a gb micro into one!

Hm. They seem rather large to me, but I've only seen photos and videos. I'm mostly worried that they'll be too wide and not tall enough.

Alright. So my phone came today and, as I already said, the controllers are here. I've taken the phone apart, but now my biggest problem is MAKING the case.

I am planning on pretty much placing the phone on top of the controller and tracing with Sharpie, does anybody have experience with this? I think it will work fine...

My other problem is that the screws to put the controller back together might not fit.

Yes you can trace it out and cut it. But cut it smaller than needed and then use a file to get it perfect.

What should I cut it with? My guess is a Dremel.

Also, how should I remove parts that are in the way, because there's lots of extra pieces sticking up that don't do anything.

Should I post some pictures?

Bump.

I also have a different idea. I'm guessing it would be possible to do some mapping and have the D-pad on the NES Controller connect to the D-pad on the phone and wire the Select button (on the Controller) to the "OK" button (on the phone). I would also throw in two smaller buttons from a N64 Controller (probably two "C" buttons) and paint them green and red, for calling and hanging up on people.

This way, the bottom part can still slide down and have the keyboard, while the top will simply be the D-pad, Select/OK, Call, and Hang Up buttons.

The major disadvantage to this is I can not simply dial a number. When you slide the phone open it doesn't let you just enter numbers, but I can call and enter numbers in the phonebook on my phone.
