Heres something that got into my head, and royally screwed with my brain. I took apart a SNES RF converter. Why? The case was to big, and I wanted to slim it down. I did (Its less than a quarter of the original size). But that left me with a case. A small case. Pretty useless...Right?
"What can I do with this?" said my inner inventor, intrigued by the small, smooth lines of the converters previous box. And then, by chance, I looked at a PSone controller (w/o analog). And thought; "No way... That's impossible! The RF's case is way to small.". And thought some more; "Theres no way...". But it was to late. Even though I argued it, the seed of doubt was already planted. Could it be that this controller I hold in my hand could fit in a SNES RF converter's case? So I opened the case of the controller. "This is pretty small, actually..." I said aloud. "If I solder here... wire here... My gods... It might be possible."
My conclusion: Yes. It can be done. I think, at least. With use of many tacts, and rewiring the main part of the controller that converts button pushes into a signal the PSone can recognize, it might be fully possible to wire a analogless controller into the case of an SNES's RF converter. And with the layout I see it as, its really not that uncomfortable. Might take some getting used to the layout, though. Could potentially be a one-handed controller.
Might be an interesting project one day. I'm fairly sure it can be done. That's why I'm posting it here. Do with it as you will. I would like to see your thoughts on this though.

With a non-analog controller, as long as you draw a diagram to where each button trace connects to the IC, you should be fine.
I suggest using one of those copper grid-style through-hole PCBs from Radio Shack or the board. Kind of like what Ben did in his book. (I remember it from the SNES by hand section)
If you don't mind, post some progress picks. I'd like to see how this turns out.

I don't mind a bit. But give me time. I'd like to finish one of my portables (SNESp, it looks like) before I start on this.
In the mean time if anybody wants to help, they can can trace the lines from the buttons to the IC on an image of the SONY brand PS controller w/o analog. It'd be a great help.
Thanks for the interest, Mikeyman.

I might be able to help out a bit. Heck, I've got all the stuff to make one myself. We'll see what time allows.HBN wrote:I don't mind a bit. But give me time. I'd like to finish one of my portables (SNESp, it looks like) before I start on this.
