Dell Inspiron Mini 9? Possibly the best netbook for the $?

You forgot about the Acer Aspire One.

I think it has the most bang for its buck.

$350 for a one with a 8gb SSD, 1.6ghz processor, 512mb ram.

Or

$400 for one with a 120gb 2.5inch HDD, 1.6ghz processor, 1gb ram.

(These are canadian dollars. So its should be cheaper or about the same in America.)

8Gb SSD, i'd rather have 12 or 16 Gb, and I require a gig of ram for me to touch a PC, lol.

Also, i don't like HDD's in lappys. :[

I should prolly finish the list of netbooks... Hmm i will when I get back from visiting my lil nephew

Yea, I thought I posted about it yesterday... I don't know if it got deleted or what....

I've been looking at netbooks since the first eee's came out. It seems every couple of months there is a newer/better/cheaper one. It makes it hard to settle on a single candidate.

My process of netbooks went from EEE 900, then 901, then the Mini 9... I didn't like the 1000H (For the HDD), or the MSI Wind, cause it is larger than I want. I never really looked into the Acer Aspire, but I don't like Acer to begin with and such.

I think the Aspire One is the winner. Sure, the "best" one is $399, but the "cheap" one is $329. It's not the easiest thing to do, but you can put a 1GB RAM card in it to bring it to 1.5GB. If you need more storage space you can put a SD card in it to bring the storage up (Not sure what the limit is). Lots more info at the Aspire One User forum HERE

I'm going to be buying a new computer really soon (Like either this afternoon or later this week.)

I'm selling my Macbook to a friend for $650 and using the cash to buy parts off newegg to build a new rig.

Parts List:

Case: Black NZXT HUSH
PSU: Sunbeam 680 Watt
Motherboard: ECS Intel P45 Mobo
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz (45nm)
Ram: 4GB (2x 2GB) DDR2 800
GPU: XFX GeForce 9800 GT 512MB GDDR3
DVD Burner (1): Samsung 20X with Lightscribe
DVD Burner (2): Samsung 20X with Lightscribe

Total Price: $617.92 (To me that is like...unbelievable for the performance I am going to get)

I'm stealing the Sound Card and Hard drive (temp) from my current Dell and using $65 of my mail in rebates to buy a new hard drive.

I will then sell my Dell to another friend for $400 and probably buy a Netbook of some sorts. I think I will save the cash and buy a MSI Wind with the $400 and Christmas money.

Don't you DARE buy an ECS or PC Chips motherboard! Nearly every single one I've ever come across is flaky or broken in some way. (The PC Chips motherboard in my HTPC won't recognize the Celeron D as a Celeron D, has a bad memory slot, and never cuts power to the PS/2 ports, among other problems.

After all, they did supply eMachines with their motherboards for years... That should tell you something.

Yeah definitely don't buy ECS boards. They are the definition of crap. I have had best luck with Asus motherboards. My current board (an Asus striker extreme) is by far the finest board I have ever owned.

Can anyone make a recommendation on a cheap and good Motherboard then? I'm on a budget of $652 and I'm at $648 (Which does include the shipping already)

How about this ASUS Board?

I want to OC my E8400 to at least 3.5 Ghz or more, will this board allow me to do that?

And will DDR2 800 screw me over on this board that uses DDR2 1066?
