Walking across the US/CA border

Post by Aguiluz »

I always wanted to visit the US because I have an old friend there.

Since he is relatively close to the border... I wish to save gas, save the earth, be healthy by walking across the border at a legal entry point, mind you.

Possible?

I'm pretty sure US citizens need to have a passport to cross the border right now...so it might also apply to Canadians too...I might be mistaken tho.

Well, from what I understand (as a Canadian) A Canadian citizen does not need a passport to cross the border. You will prolly need a valid photo ID (gov issued). but you do not need a passport, that happens sometime in 2009.

Ive talked to a backpacker who has walked across the border before.

He said going into Canada is cool (hes american), but getting back into America is a huge hassle, they ask you 50 questions like "why dont you have a car" and "where do you work" as if you are some deadbeat drain on society.

But if you are an upstanding citizen you should get across fine.

If you dont have a passport or a new drivers license you will probably need two IDs and a birth cert. I mean, better to bring too much ID than to get rejected and have to walk back.
