Original Equipment Manufacturer. It means like, if you get a Windows license from someone's Dell (or HP or yaddayadda), it's illegal to use it. They're non-transferrable.
The only license that may be transferrable (and I'm not sure on this) is the retail version, which run for about $350 if I remember correctly. OEM WinXP Home is like $90 to buy I think, and it's probably the cheapest legal means of getting Windows.

Somehow I doubt people buy extra copies of Windows and then don't use them... they're fairly expensive to be doing that.
Do you actually have a license key that came with the PC? If so, then getting a copy of the media to install from is not illegal. You are allowed one backup copy of software that you rightfully own. So, if you have an OS license, why not tell us what OS that license is for, and you can at least have something on that PC again.

you realize you're responding to a thread two years old, right? there's also that part where the OP said they didn't have a CD burner so downloading it wouldn't work.APHawkes wrote:Are you seriously telling me that you can't find an ISO for Windows on a torrent? Since you're willing to buy a valid license I can't imagine why this would be a problem.
