Softmod a PS2

Ok I want to softmod my PS2, but I have no idea how I should. I want to do it as cheap as possible. AND I DON'T WANT TO USE A SWAP DISC!!!

Any help is appreciated

(sorry for the double post) Update:Ok I found a tuturial on how to do it with action replay max or codebreaker...

so once i go get either one and soft mod it, i know i can play games off a hard drive, but can i play backup discs?

Use Hd Advanced, but do not do anything illegal

You can do the PSOne memory card exploit, too. Seems like the easiest way, but you will, of course, need a way to get the exploit ON the card. The only way to do that is through a card reader (For your computer, that is... you may be able to build one yourself. I think it's pretty easy.), or through a different, already modded PS2, which is the easiest option ever if you know someone with a modded PS2.

Edit: Yeah, I thought I'd seen it somewhere before... I think you can do this. But, look more into the exploit rather than taking my word for it... it seems like there was a reason I hadn't already done this, since it's so simple.
