atari 2600 mouse
does anyone know how to turn a atari 2600 joystick into a usb mouse?

You could use a Stelladapter* (Atari 2600 to USB adapter) and a program like Joy2Mouse to pull that off.
I honestly don't know why you'd want to; the 2600 joystick isn't analog so you'd be stuck at a fixed speed, making it impractical for games.

Why? It's not complicated. The 2600 joystick is nothing but 5 switches with a stick on top; they have no logic at all.

Connecting each joystick line to ground presses that button.
Get a $10 digital gamepad from Target and a DB9 connector. Connect the DB9 jack's ground to the gamepad's ground, and each lead to the appropriate contact switch on the controller board. (Search the forums for instructions on moving switches. It's the same concept.) Connect the 2600 trigger button to button 0 on the gamepad, left to left, right to right, etc. Close it up, plug it into the PC, connect the 2600 joystick, and you're good to go.
Seriously if you can't figure this out for yourself you're at the wrong board.
EDIT: If that's too complicated, just buy a Stelladaptor, but there's a waiting list and the AtariAge store seems to be down for the time being.
