Does anyone own a patent?

This is not a "how to obtain a patent" thread again. This is a "do you or anyone you know own a patent" thread. We're all inventors, to some degree, maybe even just in our minds. And patents cost quite a bit of money, even to just apply ($200 in Canada to APPLY for one, another $300 for other fees to keep it for a year or two)

I'm thinking of applying for one or two (Maybe three), because as it turns out, I might have enough money.

So the question:

Does anyone have a patent, and if so, discuss some of the problems you encountered on your path the patenting or marketing your invention or idea. Try to talk not so much about how to get it patented, and focus more on first-hand experiences. Although by all means, discuss anything you feel like about anyhting patent-ey.

I almost did one
It was a pain in the ass
Lengths of writing, detailed descriptions
You need a good big chunk of time, and a large tree style details(Like family tree)Then convert them into the supplied patent forms

I still need to do this, as mine is genius if it does not exist.(Im not going to tell anyone here)

Thats as far as I got(1 year later)

My dad did have a patent, but it ran up a few years ago. He invented a grip you put on the end of a hockey stick that gives you a better angle on the stick. since his patent ran up, I have seen them sold in stores. its too bad no one bought them from him.
