Switching regulators

I've noticed the Dimension-Engineering 5.0V switching regulator is pretty popular on these boards. I'm wondering why, as they are not quite cheap, and cheaper alternatives are definitely available (we have these at work, they cost about 6 Euros / $8.50). Just though I'd share.
