I didn't suggest Ubuntu for the older machines, I suggested Puppy Linux and Damn Small Linux. If he's looking to optimize performance for an older machine, I would suggest those and other small distributions over ubuntu.Bibin wrote:I know you hate to admit it, but Ubuntu is bloated Garbage; for simple web browsing, even Windows 98SE is more than adequate, and will do so much faster than Ubuntu will.
you really seam to have a problem with linux down to your very core. I do not understand your crusade against linux, did it steal your woman or something? It isn't the end of the world for someone who is not you to use it. I will not suggest it to you so I do not understand why you have to make a big deal about it whenever its mentioned.bicostp wrote:THANK you!Bibin wrote:I know you hate to admit it, but Ubuntu is bloated Garbage; for simple web browsing, even Windows 98SE is more than adequate, and will do so much faster than Ubuntu will.
It really annoys me when someone says "I'm having problem XYZ" and everyone slings Linux at them as the ultimate solution.
I just gave him an option. I specifically mentioned that it would be good if he wanted the machine as only a web-surfing machine because that doesn't take any getting used to, really. I also didn't tell him he should do it nor did I tell him it was the ultimate solution, I just said that it is a solution. the best solution is in the eye of the beholder and that is up to him to decide.
