They fixed the license agreement; that was an unrelated problem and not what he was talking about.

If you run Wireshark and begin typing into the Chrome URL bar, you'll see that everything you type is reported back to Google, along with your browser (Chrome), your IP address (it's a HTTP GET request) and your preferred language. This happens whenever you are typing into the URL bar, even if you don't hit enter. Google has even released some information about what they're doing with this data:

A Google representative told CNET News that the company plans to store about 2 percent of that data--and plans to store it along with the Internet Protocol address of the computer that typed it.

Wow, that's bulls**t. I'm not coming anywhere near that browser. I may even stop using Google as my search engine...

I just installed it. I don't really mind the fact that they collect the address bar information. As long as it's not getting information about my passwords and other fields then I'm fine.

Besides the browser is open source so it should be possible to remove the code that sends the information to Google.

I've been using it for a few hours and I like it quite a bit. It is faster on my Centrino Pro machine than FF3, and has a nice user interface. The only bug so far is the way the text wraps in text boxes (such as the one I'm typing in right now). Also, not big on the shade of blue, so in the official release skins would be nice. However, this browser just seems natural for me because I never took advantage of plug-ins in FF.

i think its to simple although it feels a lot bigger. cleaner, and seems to render pages faster

i don't like it that there is no drop down url bar to see what sites you recently typed in (dont like bookmarks)

yea if you want to just browse the web and only one website at a time, this isnt 1998 anymore i have a p4 1.5ghz desktop running windows 2000 and running firefox 2, trillian and windows messenger pushes my computer to its limits, firefox usually is occupying about half of my physical ram by itsself! on my other desktop (XP, p4 2.5ghz and 2gb ram) ive had firefox 2 using almost 900mb of ram BY ITSSELF
also to reiterate on my previous statement WHERE IS THE WINDOWS 2000 SUPPORT! everybody will say "chrome doesnt have the memory problems" or "firefox 3 fixed the memory leaks from FF2" thats lovely TOO BAD I CANT USE THEM ON 2/3 OF MY HOME COMPUTERS i run windows 2000 on my lower end boxes for obvious reasons (its smaller than xp and faster on slow pcs) so i cant use any of the new browsers and several other programs because support for 2k is GONE

If you're only interested in surfing the net with those lower end pcs, linux isn't a bad option. there are distributions out there specifically meant for low-end machines that run ridiculously fast for the hardware; especially the distributions that are made to run directly from the system's RAM (no need to access the HDD which makes things lightning fast). try puppy linux or Damn Small Linux (DSL), that is, if you're willing to give linux a try.

Linux is extremely difficult to get the hang of, but distros that come with an installer and Gnome or KDE (or one of the lesser known desktops) are as easy to use for internet browsing and word processing as any other OS. It's when you have to start installing other programs and drivers that things get hairy.

that really depends on the distribution. I don't have much experience outside of Ubuntu so I can't speak of how it is for those other distros, but the repos for ubuntu are awesome and make things really simple. love the Add/Remove programs thing that downloads and installs programs straight from the internet. Synaptic is also a god-send.

anyways, the suggestion was for if he used it mostly for internet browsing since I figured it would be a pretty simple transition if that were all he were using it for.

I know you hate to admit it, but Ubuntu is bloated Garbage; for simple web browsing, even Windows 98SE is more than adequate, and will do so much faster than Ubuntu will.

It really annoys me when someone says "I'm having problem XYZ" and everyone slings Linux at them as the ultimate solution.
