CFW PSP for 8gb iTouch=Good trade?

I have a PSP with cfw, a 4gb mem stick, and a clear case. It also has an SNES dpad mod on it, but I would swap it back out with the stock one and transplant it into a different PSP.

A friend got an Ipod touch, 8gb, but does not really want it. He wants me to trade my PSP for it.

Anybody with both of them have any suggestions? How does the iTouch compare for emulators?

I don't have either of those but if you want mostly videos and music then the touch is a much better choice. I'm sure it can also do NES and SNES class games without difficulty, plus you can programs like the guitar simulator. Look up some videos on YouTube of the Touch playing emulators.

Basically, if the loss of hardware buttons and (most likely) PSX emulation doesn't bother you, go for it. (Plus the Touch is worth $300; almost twice the cost of a brand new PSP.) If you already have another PSP you can put custom firmware on, go for it.

As far as games go, the Psp is a LOT better. It's hard to play games when you don't know whether you pushed the button or not. It's like playing with a broken controller, except without being able to feel the buttons.

But as far as homebrew goes, the Touch is getting a lot more attention right now. If you want more apps, games, whatever, you're better off with the touch, the Psp really hasn't had much attention payed to it in this area in about a year.

For a music/movie player, the touch wins. The 8gb is quite a bit for any music you might have, you don't seem too audiophile-y to me, so 8gb should be more than enough. The quality is decent enough, at least on par with the Psp, if not better. Not to mention it actually has playlist support.. I can't comment too much on the movie capabilities of the touch, but it makes youtube videos look a lot better than normal. I'd imagine it's the same for movies you might put on. The Psp isn't really that fancy as far as movies go, music too actually.

The touch also wins for web apps too. It's built in youtube player, and it's safari browser are both excellent considering the size of the touch. Both of their on screen keyboards leave a lot to be desired though, the touch's is prone to hitting other keys instead of the ones you want, while the psp's is capable of typing about 3 words a minute when you're used to it. The touch makes up for it with it's spell check-replacement thing. Both are probably fixable through homebrew though, and the psp has a few different youtube apps, haven't tested them, but I'll bet they're close enough to the touch's.

As far as I'm concerned, the Psp and the Touch are on par. I like being able to play games, and the touch just doesn't cut it. I love the touch for everything else it's capable of, but without internet access everywhere you go, the psp wins.

And I'm not even mentioning how many more emulators the psp is capable of running at full speed.

I traded my PSP (4.01 M33 with custom theme and faceplate) with 8GB Mem stick for a 8GB iPod Touch a while ago and then that same person traded me it back for a DS Lite with nothing.

So in the end: DS Lite for iPod Touch = I got a great deal.

If you want it mainly for games, keep the PSP. If the web, music, and videos are your thing, get the Touch. You also have to consider that you'll be getting twice the memory.

As you may know, I am a big Apple guy, but most will agree that the iPod touch is great. I do have a PSP... with only 2 games. If you're looking to emulate, go PSP, but if not, go Touch. Aside from the big sports games, movie games, and other games being released on real consoles, the Touch has a pretty cool growing lineup of cheap or free games on the new app store. I don't know if the one you would trade for bought the update, but I think it would be worth the money. The main reason I haven't considered selling my PSP seriously, is my hopes for a Gran Tourismo Portable (not lookin too good

) ...But its your choice.

EDIT: Also palmer, if I remember correctly, you like mesh buttons, not tact, so emulating on the Touch screen might not be a big deal for you.

Do it - and then I'll trade you a PSP with CFW for your iPod Touch.

I love my PSP, but an iPod Touch would be much more useful for other stuff... And then I could buy a PSP-3000 and have a better screen on my PSP and basically I'd be buying an iPod Touch for the cost of a PSP 3000.

But wait until after Sept 9 to do it - the iPod line is getting refreshed, and the prices / values might change.

you can get the best of both worlds pretty soon

look at http://www.icontrolpad.com/ for PSP-likecontrols on the ipod touch/iphone (i think for the ipod touch it may take a while longer though).
specs wise the ipod touch beats the psp at everything. jailbroken ipods can run a whole lot of homebrew games and software and the apple app store has some decent games (mainly super monkey ball) for a good price (and hacked version are available i believe) but for real gaming it'd stick with the PSP

ipod touch is all icandy. I would go with the PSP any day. can easily get a fully functional 8GB MP3 flash-based mp3 player for a better price.

What you should really do is, do the trade. Sell the Touch and buy another Psp.
