The first pic is an emu - the bird, relative of the ostrich - not an emulator. I don't understand how a moose represents a retro game system, though.

I'm sorry, I don't agree. Emulators have a lot of benefits over the "real thing". First, of course, price - then there's portability, (without spending tons of money and time building your own system - or being limited by hardware that other people make.) Then there's things like freeze states, the ability to use other controllers - slow mo, fast speed, turbo, homebrew, PD Roms.... Plus, some games lag on the original system, but you can adjust the speed on an emulator.

Yes, I love the old systems - and there is something nostaligic about playing games on the hardware they were designed for. However, emulators have their place as well.
Yeah, I got the whole Emu=Bird, but I didn't get the second picture.
Oh, yeah, don't forget to mention that emulators can have Anti-Aliasing, which makes some games a lot more playable.

and you can replace textures, customize controls (love my dual-analog Perfect Dark)

Back to the original topic - wait a couple years when a SNOAC (Super Nintendo on a Chip) is legal and widely available. Like the FC Mobile (NOAC powered portable) - http://cgi.ebay.com/FC-MOBILE-CONSOLE-S ... dZViewItem

Added via edit: Since Famicom patents expired in 2003 (20 years after the Famicom came out) and NES patents expired in 2005 (20 years after the NES came out) - I'm guessing that the Super Nintendo clones will be completely legit by 2010 - so I'm guessing that's when a pre-packaged Portable Super Nintendo will be widely available - most likely for far less than $200 - probably closer to $50, like the FC Mobile and the FC Twin (which plays Super Nintendo and Nintendo games - but is not portable).

O, by the way, emu's are also good because of the super 2x sal stuff, you can make the pixels blend with it, and looks pretty sweet, I prefer originally blocky/pixelated characters, but if you like, there are some NES and SNES emu's that blend pixels with certain settings
