Jamma Boards

Post by Dave »

Does anyone know how to mod a JAMMA board to have composite (or any other kind of standard video out), audio, and controls. I don't know much about this stuff but i just saw a deal i can't refuse.

I had to use a capacitor on the sync line to get a stable picture. You may or may not need one.
So jamma stuff can be done, you just have to wire stuff right.

It's the connector that the jamma boards plug into.

so that means if i was going to hook it up to a jamma arcade amchine i'd have to connect it by hand. But since im just converting it for regular tv use it doesnt matter. Right :?:

umm... I guess you could just solder everything to the JAMMA board itself, but then you'd only be able to use 1 game really. Also, if you're planning on using this with a tv I'd suggest either you start building a chroma encoder now, or buy a shotgun.

There are cheap ways to get composite from a JAMMA board.
1) If you live in a country that uses PAL, those PAL converters for video game systems will also work with your JAMMA board. They take in RGB and output PAL composite.
2) Take a Genesis/Megadrive from your region, and crack that bad boy open and wire up the RGB to the RGB from the Genesis. It might be good to get rid of components that might interfere (but if you just turn on the Genesis with the video lines cut, that should work too).

Either of these solutions are, in fact, the same thing. There are ways to make the PAL converters output NTSC too, but when I tried the best I got was a PAL signal again (thought I broke it) so, I gave up. Then again, at the time my soldering skills were lacking, so you might have better luck.

In any case, video encoders are abundant and cheap :) Good luck!
