Regarding Linking to eBay Auctions

Post by Mario »

I've noticed that many people like to use eBay auctions as references to
items. They'll say, "Is this a good screen to use?" And then they'll put a
link to the auction. This is all good and fine, until the auction ends and
eBay deletes it. eBay does save the ended auction for a short time, but
not for long. Once the auction is gone, people can no longer help
because thay don't know what the poster is referring to!

To try to avoid this, please upload the eBay photo to your own image
hosting server (Photobucket, Flickr, TinyPic, something like that) and link
to that, so that even after the auction has ended and is gone, posters can
still get help with their problem. It may also be useful to copy the
description of the item into your thread, as well.

How to upload an online image to a photo-hosting server:

1. Find the image you want.

2. Right-click the image, and click properties.

3. Highlight the image url and copy it. (In IE, it it labeled Address, in
Firefox, it's under Image Properties and Location.)

4. Browse to your image host, and go to the upload page.

5. Choose to upload from a web URL, and paste the text you copied a
moment earlier. (The image url.)

6. Wait for it to upload.

7. Copy the IMG Code link and paste it in your thread. OR you can copy
the direct link and use the img tags: [img]DirectLinkHere[/img]

There you go! Please use this alternative method to linking to eBay
auctions to ensure you can get help with your question even after the
auction has been taken down. Thanks for reading. :)

Fantastic idea! I hate searching for info and it leading to a dead end... unfortunately, many of the old links put up do the same.
