You could do the Sony Infolithium battery (the 550 type)
If not you could go to batteryspace.com and find whatever you're looking for (7.5 volts and lots of mAh for tons of playing time

).

mAh stands for milli amp hous, which means how many amps it outputs under the voltage, and wattage is just amps times volts.
Its all in ben's book btw

I would do hand-built like someone did a few years ago, but I cant figure how to rebuild the controller

Oh well, but expect long playtime(I had a friend who offered to get me any GC screen regardless of price, now is doing the same with my PS1p battery because he got me grounded for a month

Mixed emotions, but way cool(Told him not to get me the battery but he insisted, so its his funeral

Yes, I highly recommend that battery for a beginner. It will work perfectly fine for what you need, and it's safer than playing with li-ion or li-poly.
