starting 360 laptop

im getting ready to start a 360 laptop. im just wondering if i should use all sheet metal or plastic for the case. any feed back would be great. i have tools to do the case either way but i am trying to do it the fastes way. can i make the case in seperate pieces of sheet metal and vac form plastic over the outer sides of the pieces and weld on the inside?

IMO.

I never made a 360P tho.

im thinkin that if the metal is sanded then it should form vacc over it

Wouldn't that then defeat the purpose(I dont know a serious question)
Metal dissipates heat way better-Vac form is plastic

i will just vac form the outside to give a good look the inside will still b bare metal kinda the same concept as the original 360 case

You don't realize the point he's trying to make. with the plastic aruond the metal you're just wasting time and you'll overheat your 360 and the heat will transfer trhough the metal to the plastic...it might even warp your plastic case if to much heat is generated...just stick with the metal..

Also when choosing your screen don't go for computer monitors. Tvs have much for versitility IMHO. That way the user can set 480I,480P.720P,1080I or 1080P. Some people like interlaced vs progressive...also you don't have to hook vga cable, you can hook it up via hdmi or DVI, which gives much better picture...

bet then again price is also a factor...just my two cents.

plastic doesn't disipate heat as good as metal...if you look at the xbox forums and read around you'll see somebody tried plastic and kept getting overheating problems.

If you have enough air flow its fine. If you design it correctly you should not have to dissipate heat through the case.

I think rekarp is right. Design it with good airflow and you should be fine.

I love the look of plastic sooo much better than metal, plus it's lighter. But I do concede that metal offers much better support.

For a case you could use Lexan and aluminum siding maybe?
And for getting parts off the mobo post pics where appropriate

ill post pics in the mornign but i broke off one of the caps and i cant get the hrd drive connector off. im tryn to use radio shacks desolderer and its spose to real good but its not working good for me. any tips?

desoldering braid or vacum pump. A regular desoldering bulb doesn't get everything off.
