WTB: Slim slot load CD/DVD drive. Partially working is OK!

All I need is a slim slot-load CD or DVD drive that doesn't even need to read discs! All it has to do is pull in, and push out discs with no problems!

Cheap is the key here.

PS:
Does a iMac CD drive work the same on a PC? They sell them cheap on e-bay.

Palmer bet me his PSP it cannot be done.

It can be done, you shove the psone disc drive into the slim dvd case, just hack the drive case to fit it...you also have to mod the psone disc drive switches (the ones that tell it wether it's open or not) to turn on and off when the drive opens and closes...it's not hard and your probably going to get a PSP...

I wonder what Palmer will say once he reads this thread...anyways I gotta try making an NES with a cart slot like the wii...automatically pulls the game in, ejects it for you too...now that is a challenge!

Your honor, my client does not need any soldering talents in order to do this. He just needs to swtich out the laser asmebly in the dvd drive with the psone asembly, then wire up a switch that when the slot is closed the psone knows it's closed, when open psone knows its open.

I also will need to do some fancy work with a exact-o knife so that the laser assembly's ribbon cable can be made longer.
Also I need to figure out how to power the drive off the battery, but that shouldn't be too much trouble.

Are you kidding? He is going to have to extend the entire drive ribbon cable! Not the easy, big kind, like in bens book, but a tiny, small spaced, enamel coated one. Soldering skills are of utmost import for stuff like this.

Not to mention the fact that the wiring will have to be stable enough to flex with the drive movements.

Or if it's a standard .5mm ffc he can just order an extension.
