How hard would it be chop off the top of the mobo, and still use the original backlight? Has anyone done this? I ask because I do not want to LED mod my screen, but the top has got to go, as there is no room for it. I will probably end up using LEDs, but I figured I would ask first.
Also, I know there has been a lot of talk about different LEDs and which are better, but I want to know what would be the best LEDs to use. Like, viewing angle, mcd, and what to do to diffuse the light (sanding LEDs, etc).
I think everyone who has done an LED mod or two should shed some light on this topic. We could gather the info and determine what the best LEDs would be to use. Since it is a little risky modding a screen 10 times with different LEDs, I think a little cooperative effort could help us all figure out the very best way to do it and maybe half of us would have way better LED mods.

I dunno how good they are, but dealextreme has some really cheap LEDs.

Those DX LEDs are quite bright, and very cheap, but they're the wrong size. (5mm as opposed to 3mm) Somebody wrote a review saying they replaced a screen backlight with them, so maybe they would work if you grinded them down a bit.
EDIT: Looks like somebody wrote that they have a blue tint. Probably not ideal for a screen. :/
