SNES2 + region mod?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

SNES2 + region mod?

Post by Rekarp »

Hey quick question. I have a commission for another SNESp V2 but the guy lives over in europe. So if I region mod the SNES2 for EUR will it still work on the 60Hz PSone screen?

Not to sure about that...they use scart RGb singals over in Europe so it might work with 50hz...but this site has some stuff about all consoles, RGB, REgions unloocking and everything else.

http://www.gamesx.com/

maybe you'll find what you need there. Hopefully anyways.

Edit: Apparnelty by make switches in the right slots you can make the snes universal, NA, Jap and Europe...but I don't know if those count for the SNES2...You'll see yourself when you take it apart I guess...I hope I was of some help!

another link for more turoials like that is www.mmmonkey.co.uk

AFAIK, that will not work. The video output is dependant on the console, not the games. So while it is possible to make PAL games play on an NTSC console, the output will still be NTSC. You can likewise (In theory) get a PAL snes to play NTSC games, but the output is still PAL.

My bit of knowledge.

duh woops.

Alright, that was dumb.

It would work in theory, but two problems: SNES PAL games run at 50hx vs 60hz. So a slight underclock might actually do the trick, assuming the SNES graphics hardware is set by hardware.

Which is why I gave him a link, he can make a lockout chip switch and a 50hz/60hz switch, allowing for a universal SNEs, he just needs to get a hold of a pal cart so he knows how to make the cart slot...apparently they are differently shaped...

No I need to beable to hook an NTSC SNES2 to a NTSC PSone LCD and have it play PAL games. I dont need a 50Hz switch as it would render the PSone LCD useless. I am just wondering if I would have any compatibility problems.

Some games would, yes. SMRPG is the only one I know off the top of my head, but there are a number of games that won't run after a SNES is modded to play European games. But if that's really a problem, why not just throw in a switch to control the mod? :?

If you flip it into 50Hz the NTSC PSone LCD is going to have a fit.

Okay, now I'm a bit confused. What exactly do you want to do? Do you want your SNES to play PAL games, or do you want it to play games at 50Hz and 60Hz? They're two different mods. Link1 Link2. You don't need to be playing at a 50Hz frequency for PAL games to work.

Not with the screen...but some games might be screwy. For example starfox or Super Mario RPG to name 2. I don't know if there are anymore then that though...

The games will either run too fast, the music will be off, or it'll just not work at all.
