That's really cool. I'd love to see more photos, and really what you've been using for power.

Well I gave up on the single AA battery. The energy loss from converting 1.2V to 5V was at about 60%-50% which is unacceptable. I ordered a 3.7V lithium battery that is 750mAH. Should give about 1.5hours of game time at full volume. Charge time will be 1 hour.

Oh and it has a name now. The FIC or Flashback In a Cart

Got the battery and it works great under the lithium battery. Total power draw is 250mA which is about half of what most portables I have built draw. with a 750mAh battery and 93% efficiency (Ti switching regulator!) the total time of game play should be 3+ hours of game play

awesome!

so, i'm curious. what switching regulator did you use? and i thought switching regulators were only for stepping down voltages... not boosting them up...?
they call me the Queen of Bondo, though maybe i should be called the Queen of Epoxy Putty

I am going to use a step down as I am going from 3.7V to 3.3V. I am going to use a PTH04000W.

In due time.

The Flash back first steps down the 9V input to 5V with a 7805 and then it steps that down to 3.3V with another linear voltage regulator. The AEIcomp screen runs off of any voltage from 3.3V to 12V. The Audio Amp is a normal LM386 that to my surprise can operate on 3.3V which is below the 5V spec.

Are you using built-in games or carts? I thought I had broken mine entirely when I accidentally zapped the flash rom, but then I wired up a cart slot and found that it otherwise worked perfectly.

Yes On board. There is no room for a cart slot
