Emulator PC

I put together a "living-room PC'. It has emulators for NES, SNES, GB, GBA, Genesis, Master system, Ataris 2600, 7800, Lynx, 400&800, and Commodore 64. I have it rigged up to the TV and stereo. It's a great way to play all those old games (because my local Gamestop does not sell anything older than PS and n64 :cry: .

nothing much to see, just a tower pc with an old "l-tv portable" unit connecting it to the TV, a cheap CompUSA keyboard, and an old Microsoft Sidewinder control pad.

now all you need is to get adaptors for all your controllers, hooked up to a usb hub.

Sounds a lot like my EmuCon prototype, only the EmuCon has no need for a mouse, only a few keyboard keys (I'll hack a keyboard into a small remote) and support for 4 controllers (currently SNES via parallel port). Though honestly the SNES interface isn't worth the trouble, so the EmuCon 1 will feature a 4 port adapter for PSX controllers. That way I can have some analog inputs, steering wheels, arcade sticks, or whatever. It'd be great if I could find an ACT Labs USB TV lightgun too, though from the looks of things it'll run me upwards of $200 on ebay.

I've already got 2 usb control pads, the Sidewinder I mentioned earlier and a Gravis Gamepad. They suit what I need them to do just fine, now that I have extended the usb cords to 10 feet.

I might get a wireless keyboard, though.

I would suggest using a hacked up smaller keyboard, except that you're emulating a lot of computers so you probably need a full one.

Anyways, I'm curious: Hows the video output from that l-tv portable thing? I went with a cheap ATI card (not manufactured by ATI, sadly) for the EmuCon prototype and composite tv out is... well... lackluster at best. I'm still deciding what to use in the EmuCon 1, and right now its probably going to be the built in composite out of an EPIA-M board. But if I can get really great picture from something like that I might just be willing to spend the money on it. Oh, how are the colors? Thats the biggest problem I have with my card, even after adjustments the colors are still not as vivid as they should be.

Oh yeah, I was also wondering about the A2600 emulation. While working with the prototype I tried Stella, which had awesome compatability but no readily aparent method for using arbitrary analog controls, and MESS (which I was already using for SMS and GG), which has much less acceptable compatability but does support arbitrary analog controls. I couldn't get either to use the whole screen, NTSC games and PAL games took up different portions of it but never the whole thing. So I guess what I'm asking is: what atari 2600 emulator are you using and how is it configured?

Hmm... I may be making something like that, has just one joypad, no mouse or keyboard, and has a small hard drive, but nice specs, to play emulators, and has PS2 joypads (or that very cool Sega Saturn pad thats actually a USB pad)

As far as the video quality on the TV, it's acceptable. I don't play anything newer than Genesis and SNES/GBA games, and their video resolutions are quite low. I can't give you a difinitive answer for the quality, because my 10-year-old tv's red tracking is starting to go, making everything look blurred.
