C64-DTV Cart Slot Connection

Post by vb_master »

I was wondering if I could scrape the glopie-top off (where the TSOP spot is) and wire up a cartridge slot?

Ah, I disconnected the power to the TSOP glop-top, and it would not boot. Oh well.

there are no points to solder a cart port on the DTV, even if you successfully remove the glooop, the address lines are not present.

there is a FULL IEC interface, and some people are working on a CF or MMC type interface that effectivley will emulate a 1541

Looks to me like that schematic shows some address and data lines outside of the main chip, unless all of that is covered in a glob top.

I'm supprised that no one has done the cart mod yet. You think its because more cart games can be loaded onto a floppy and so makes it easier to use then add a cart slot?

How did you get a hold of that?

If you're gonna make a cart slot, you may want this for the cart side:

it seems like there is an extra address line on the DTV, since there doesn't seem to be an A16 line on the real cart. I suppose you'd need it on the DTV, since that has a big ROM for all the games. Then again, I'm not familiar with address and data lines (yet) so I'm not sure.

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

As for address 16, it might just be to support the big ROM, but other than that everything's there.

I can't try it, as I cut some traces which I cannot reconnect.

There are 21 address lines on the c64 dtv, only 16 if I can count on the c64 cart slot. Maybe for use with the floppy drive, or just for the extra size in the roms :)

Yes, all the address lines are present on the ASIC,
BUT, all the PCB pads got removed during the cost reduction phaze of the joystick.
the intention of the designer originaly was to have all address lines accessable!
