Atari 2600 problem

Post by timujin »

Has anyone had an Atari 2600 where one controller continually fires? It's independent of which controller is put in. If I start up a game like Asteroids, player one can't fire, player two is normal. If I put in Combat, player one just fires continuously, player two is still normal. I've switched the controllers between the two ports, but it's always player one that has the problem, so it's not the controller causing the issue. Anyone seen this before? I've taken the game apart to see if there was any obvious issue, but didn't find anything.

Thanks,
Gray

Try another controller. If it still does this then that means that for some reason the "fireing" pin is stuck low. What you need to do is open her up and test to see what the voltage is on that pin. If its 5V then its normal, if its less than that (3V-0V) then you need to attach a 5V linewith a 10 ohm in series (pull-down) to the pin. Should work. Some heavy sixers develop this problem after A/V modding. Don't really know what causes it.
