DS boot problem

Ok, so. I've been working with my friends ds, and after putting the top screen back in, as soon as the ds boots, we see the screen for about a second and then it shuts down... It does the same thing without the screen. Does the ds check for the screen when it boots up? Is there a way to fix this?
Sometimes after wigglin the cable it works. But only if it stays perfectly still. The cable is in good condition! So, is there something I could bridge to skip this?

But, both screens fade in white(flashed ds), then it turns off.

I dunno, but It sounds like a blown fuse that you may have to bypass.

The DS definitely checks for the top screen because when I removed the top screen from a friends phat DS it wouldn't even turn on. when it was put back in it worked fine.

No idea how to fix it

I don't think it's the fuses, my DS had similar issues, i fixed it by checking and re-checking the cables to the top screen, finally, when all hope was lost, I closed the case, screwed it all together, and haven't had a problem since. Turns out the ribbon cable, whilst hard to find the proper position, naturally sits there when the case is closed, leading to it working fine.

Ah, well.

totokan: Oh, my dad locked the bios setup menu, thinking he was locking up the whole system!

I knew that was what he was thinking he was doing. I told him it worked, and I asked how he did it.

So, I can get on whenever I want, but I cant be on the network when hes home or awake!

Well, I simply don't go to the setup menu, and just use the computer like normal!

I mean, if you want to try replacing the fuses, why not? It can't really harm anything, but if it's like you said (playing with the cable, it'll sometimes boot) it's probably not the fuses...

That sounds like a boken ribbon cable alright. On startup, the DS checks for the top screen and shuts down if one isn't detected. Read it on AcidMods somewhere. See, that site can be useful at times, nit just all pretty cases and sparkly lights.

Yep, they do handheld consoles, so I'll search there for more info, although I already know the problem.

The only thing I ever got from that site that I deem usable here is the joystick mod, where you can wire up a joystick w/ pots to normal buttons!

SS, where is that joystick mod you speak of? I know there is a product that does it, but is there a cheap way?
