The idea of the compo was to encourage NEW portables to be finished in the time frame. Planning, gathering parts and materials, AND actual work was supposed to happen during the time frame. My vote is no, it shouldn't count.

And I got a new screen today, so I'm back in the running!

palmertech wrote:Hey bacteria: Hate to break it to you, but there is NO way that those batteries are 1800 or 2000mah. A DS lite battery is standard 1000mah. Because it has pretty much no casing, just the cell. I have gotten some ones from dealextreme, and those chinese DS Lite batteries work out to 800-900mah, not even the rated 1000mah on the stock battery. Same thing with those "3600mah" PSP batteries on ebay, that are the same size as an official 1800mah one.

If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

With your 4 cells, I would count on 7.4 at 2000mah. If you are lucky.
I know what you mean, however most of these things are made in China these days. The Li-ion in my NDS fhat is also China (original Nintendo one).

I won't know conclusively until I use them.

What I do know is they are 50mm x 35mm x 6mm and can be stacked.

Indeed. Compo started 18 July, not before.

I didn't start my current system, or giving it thought, until 28/30th July. (I know this as it is documented in News on my website - I was trying to get my SNES system working on my other system). On 2nd August I started design for the system I am building at the moment for this compo.

My entry is entirely valid, in fact I started rather late and now have a pressing deadline to meet - not just the system but also some carts to go into it!

Entries started before the 18th July are as invalid as entries finished after 31st August as both scenarios are against the principle of this compo. The deadline was tight after all, a maximum of 6 weeks as I recall from start of compo; it was made on a tight time frame for a purpose...

Ok, 20th then!! :P

BTW - is the midnight deadline for entries on the 31st August, American time, or the time in your own country? There can be several hours plus or minus from that depending on where you live. We are from all over the world after all!! :P

Yep, I think i started mine on the 21st, although I ordered all my parts as soon as the contest was announced, they arrived afterwards.

because of the time constraints i will NOT be entering this competition. 6 weeks just isnt enough time for me to finish one very complicated and involved snes portable and THEN start another portable and finish it! because of contractual obligations techinically i would have to had finished 2 systems before i even got started on my system for the contest! oh well, more opportunity for others to win!

While most of those batteries are made in China, the official nintendo ones are usually much higher quality. I have a 3600mah PSP battery, but it only works out to about 1200. Either way, depending on if you get 2 or 4, you are gonna have 7.4 at 1000mah, or 2000mah, if the capacity is the same as a normal DS Lite battery. Is that pic of your official one? I do not think it is, my official one is only 1000mah. I am planning on ordering some PSP batteris, I can get a reliable, tested capacity 1800mah cell for about $8.

I think that the point of this contest is to come up with something new, buy the stuff, and make it in the allotted time. Do you really think anyone cares when you bought the primer? If you have an idea, make progress towards it, then remake it, why should it count?
