DS batteries work with retro duo?

the retro duo is 5v, and the DS is 5.2v. so I am wondering if the DS batteries will work. will the extra .2v be too much for the retro duo? I only have 1 and little money, so I don't want to fry the thing.

The point 2 of a volt shouldn't matter. The big problem is that the DS battery doesn't hold much charge so will only be able to power the Retro Duo would only be powered for a teeny amount of time.

unless your aiming for a really small portable nimh batteries are perfectly adequate an a LOT cheaper than lipoly or li-ion batteries. you can get NIMH AAs up to like 2600mah which would be enough to run a 2.5" lcd and retro duo for almost 5 hours, i tested my retro duo with a Chinese 2.5" lcd off of ebay and their combined draw was 440mah at like 6v i think, the retro duo will run ok down to about 4.8-5v iirc

Energizer has a great "portable camera" set. It's four AA's, and a charger that does AA and AAA for around $20. The batteries are 2600mAh. I've been using them for a few years, and I've no complaints about them whatsoever. Another advantage of using them is that they can be replaced with regular alkalines in an emergency.

I really think we need to write a definitive guide to batteries for portables. Maybe I'll get working on that after I get back to school and I'm looking for a distraction from homework...

The DS batteries are 3.7v, normally 850mAh, which isn't much.

You can however get 1600mAh or 2000mAh batteries for the NDS Lite, also 3.7v. These are the ones I have bought for my project, waiting for them to arrive sometime soon!! Two of them in series gives 7.4v
