SNESp V2 Finished Updated pictures

Post by Rekarp »

I retook all the pictures. I used a white back ground and white lighting (no yellowing!) to capture the color of the case.

D'oh! You beat me by a day! I'm almost finished.

That case is gorgeous! I really really love the wooden buttons. Makes it classy.

Edit: Ha ha - I just noticed the forums in the background.

I really like that new d-pad you did. It looks a lot more finished than the first.

Out of curiosity, can the cart sit any lower in it? It looks awfully high.

wow, the all-wood design is a very different looks for these. looks pretty cool. 'specially love that you actually made the controller buttons 'n stuff wooden as well.

edit: although maybe the buttons could stand to have their letters carved into them or something.

L and R are on the back side. If you grip the portable they lie where your index fingers would be.

Thanks! The biggest complaint I had about my previous designs was the 3 piece D-pad (glue all of them together) so I decided to make a single solid part. Took me one hour of filing to get it right but its perfect.

The reason is so high is cause of I designed the portable to be very flexible in terms of power. If a costumer wants a longer battery life I can stick a bigger battery in it without having to modify the layout. Currently the whole thing runs off of 4 2600mAh AA batteries for a little more then 1.5 hours. This is a lot less then my last one but you can just swap the batteries via hatch on the back.

I have thought about it many times but hand carving would look ridiculous. Laser etching is to expensive as well.

Plug cutter. Except mine are non tapered. Like these http://www.acehardware.com/product/inde ... 0191585583

Makes it classy.

Now one day you can tell your ungrateful grandkids:

"when I was younger, all I had was a piece of wood and I was happy".

Seriously, that is pretty awesome.

Thanks. I sanded the wood down with an RO sander with 220grit and sprayed 3 coats of a high end lacquer finish on it. I think im going to polish it for its photoshoot 8)

This statement is wrong on so many levels.

Ahhhh. That makes sense. Anyway, aside from the filing, how did you do that d-pad? Did you cut out a cross shape and file it down, or were you courageous enough to start with a block?

I printed out a outline of the D-pad and glued it to the wood I wanted to use. Then I used a scroll saw (like a mounted jigsaw) to cut the bulk of the material leaving a fraction of material left around the d-pad. Then using some files I trimmed it to the size to fit in the d-pad slot.
