Gallon challange?

Post by lifeisbetterwithketchup »

For those not familiar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallon_challenge

Has anyone tried this/know someone who did?

A friend of mine and I tried this today. During our lunch break from our high school's marching band camp, we went to Jewel and bought two gallons of milk. We returned to his house, stomachs empty, and began drinking at 12:45. We continued to do so, and when 1:45 rolled around (conveniently enough the time we had to be back at the high school), we were almost done (but not done, thus failing the challenge) and feeling sick. Nevertheless, we went back to the school, milk gallons in hand, and sat down while our band director was talking to everyone about stuff. We continued to sip at our nearly-empty milk gallons, with me feeling more and more sick every second. Then I lost it; I puked all over the floor, creating quite a ruckus. Neither of us finished our milk, but my friend did not puke, thus I crowned him the winner of our little endeavor.

Moral of the story: Proceed with caution.

My friend did it. He said he did the first half in 20 minutes and finished the rest in 35 more. He didn't have any witnesses, but he said he is going to do it again at school lunch (another friend said she'd pay him $5 if he did it, but she would have to witness it). The only reason I believe him is because he can eat and eat and never get full, yet he is thin as a pole.
I think that I would be lucky to get half a gallon down. But, I can chug a quart of water, which is much faster and is more likely to keep an audience interested because it only takes 30 seconds. 8)

Some fellow employees and I had talked about it a few times. One of them, Jay, believed is wasn't possible because of the acid in the milk causing you to throw up. So I always responded by saying, "Take a few Tumes before chugging the milk."

I'm surprised that people have been able to do that. I know that that the stomach can take it, it's just milk is really heavy, and that's a lot of lactose to have your system process. I'd expect someone to get sick in one way or another.

Milk is awesome. I've considered getting a gallon of milk and drinking it all at once but never heard of this challenge.

I always thought milk was a base-- the complete opposite of an acid.

Milk is alkaline not acid.

I love milk, but wouldn't want to drink that much at a sitting!

My churches youth group hand a contest to see who could drink a Two-Liter the fastest about a year ago. If I remember correctly, I was was able to Knock out the Two-Liter in around 3 minutes. And I of course won the contest.

I'm fairly sure milk is slightly acidic due to the presence of lactic acid.

Ive done it in 52 minutes but im a huge milk drinker. If you want to try it again mix it with some Nesquik as it will go down easier. I did feel pretty bad after those 48 minutes tho

I've done it, it's not that hard if you eat as much as I do.

Milk is definitely a base. that's why it is suggested that you use milk if you eat something especially spicy. The pH of Milk is on the base side which helps to cancel out the acidic pH of hot sauces. Water doesn't do much to help since it is typically of a neutral pH or slightly acidic.
