Nintendo 64 Bic Pen Removal method - video

Hi guys,

I'm sure that someone has shown this before, but I needed to do it, so I thought why not make a quick video & possibly help out a noob or two.

(note: the motherboard on this n64 is dead, & I need to swap in a good one).

I used this method. It really does work. It can be hard but wrth it. On the power supply screws I just slotted them and used a regular screwdriver because they were so shallow where as the N64 has a gambit thats like 5 miles down

Nice, but you can get the 'driver for 58 cents... plus a whole load of other useful bits here. The bic pen method is invaluable in vacation situations, though!

That isn't going to work. It's one of those mini sets where the hexes aren't even 1/4". It's all way too small. About the only use you can get out of that set is the tri-wing on the GB line. That spanner's way too small to use on e-torxes.

so your saying the e-torx BIT wouldn't work, or the thing it goes into isn't long enough to reach the screws?

yeah, I actually started to read the reviews and apparently the god reviews are fake. all the other ones talk about what a cheap piece of crap the set is (and someone specifically mentioned the "torx" driver.

is it possible that the gamebit piece was meant for the smaller screws used in carts?

either way, I think my money would be safer going for a dedicated gamebit screwdriver for the ungodly price of $1.78

what ever they were intended to do, the seller is either scamming or isn't smart enough to figure out they dont really do what they claim

Hey, I bought one and it worked fine for the GBA carts that used it and the Wii. The torx bits do suck, though. If you need a dedicated one of not-so-questionable quality, they're 2 or 3 dollars apiece.

On anything but GBA/Wii, it's useless. It only works on those ones because they're tri-wing instead of the older e-Torx everyone was using for the longest time. For anything related to SNES, N64, NES, there's nothing useable in the set.

Oh, really? I was under the impression everything post-SNES used triwings...

Sadly, not the case. The N64 system and carts are still e-torxes. I just dug out my GC, and that's still held together with the e-torxes. At least there's no e-torxes on GC discs.

Well, my apologies for misleading links. But the fact still remains that a good screwdriver is sub-5 dollars, although not sold in major stores... FWIW, I was able to open a GBC copy of Gold version with one of the bits, it resembles a flathead with the middle cut out, forming a sort of "U" shape.
