Portable-Palooza (voting thread opened!)

I do plan on finishing at some point, but that project is on hold till I get a new gp2x. I was hoping for feedback from benheck people on it that was unbiased by the fact that I failed. Thanks for ruining my plan, bacteria!

An interchangable tv game system is especially cool because new modules will be easy to make, as well as cheap. Make sure you allow for 6v as well as 3v ones.

Well congratulations for posting pics of a system which didn't come to anything. Woot!!

No seriously, looked a nice little project; simple, but a nice idea.

All the ones I have, and a couple I am aiming to get, take 4 x AA's = 6v however they really only work well if the batteries are full-charge - in fact, some prefer to work at over 7v. I'm therefore going to just use 7.4v to run the screen and the games.

Got another GameBoy cart today at a car boot sale, for 50p ($1) and got a free GameBoy Color console to boot

Gives me 7 carts to hack apart for my system now. Also got a boxed complete version of Snoopy Tennis on game'n'watch for 30p (60c) - worth about Â£20 ($40) on e-bay. Can't use it for any project, just pleased with this deal!!

I think that I may go for this. I've got a gamecube that's all nice and ready to get owned by me. And I have a good idea for a GC case... not to mention a job which pays enough to try this. I think all signs are go, go, go.

my system is on its way, i already have the lcd and most of the case material, just need to order the batteries and we are ready to start as soon as i get my other obligations out of the way

I am still waiting for stuff in the mail... My portable has GBA, NES, FM radio, MP3 player, GPS, USB emergency gadget charger, accelerometer, li-ion AND AA power, and all in a funky, retro case. No, seriously. You guy are gonna be taken DOWN! If I actually finish in time...

oh yeah! well mine has... uh..

you definatly have us beat on the MASSIVE AMMOUNT OF FEATURES front, mine only has the "plays videogames" feature PLUS a LED battery meter!

oh and the most absurd unbelievable case design evar

So guys, this looks like it will be an interesting compo with lots of different systems and hopefully lots of different people taking part, giving lots of variety. It is good that it isn't just a case of putting different console systems into similar boxes; innovation is "the next level"

BTW palmertech - my system may also incorporate GBA too, as well as authentic arcade game originals and various games from Intellivision, NES, MegaDrive (plug'n'play TV games offer a lot of variety!).

Come on, nightwheel, you have been talking about getting a screen for your project for months now - no more excuses, make a portable!!

I am making good progress on my system, but due to the sheer amount of work left to do, I may not have enough time to make a second entry in the compo as anticipated. I have time on and off until 19th, then from 20th I have a couple of weeks holiday so should be able to devote a lot of time then - handy, for the time-frame of this compo!

my entry is gonna be of a very unused, and i think underrated gaming system on these forums. *dun dun duhhh* the plot thickens!

i'm with bacteria on this. it's cool to hear all the different stuff and ideas. this is gonna be a sweet compo. i think we should do this exact one annual or something! keep people motivated! plus, it brings out great new ideas!

Forget that; When can we do another controller contest?

Also, to my crazy features list, add IR control and Bluetooth. No, really. This is a job that I got on commision, I am just waiting for the parts to arrive now. Apparently, the guy I am making it for wants it to beat the pandora in terms of "Kinda sort maybe useful sometimes" features.

Another idea: I may also enter my N64 portable if I finish it. Who thinks that I should build in a GP2X in the same case? I have a GP2X mobo with no screen or case, so it would work pretty well via tv out.
