gameglass screen (8.5v)

hey guys, a tiny update, i found that i will use some subc cells for this screen which needs 8.5v . the batteries are rated at 4.2Ah which should hold up quite a while.. i was wondering how this will work though because added up they amount to 8.4v and after an hour or so will the batteries voltage drop?? because then the screen will most likely stop functioning (it requires 8.5v in the first place)

please advise as i am ignorant to this topic.

Err, why don't you just try it? It is very unlikely that any damage will occur if the voltage runs too low. Most devices have a range of voltage they will run at, not just exactly as labeled.

Its likely theres a regulator on the controller board that supplies the ICs and LCD module with 5v or 3.3v. Anything from 6v to about 15v would probably power the screen fine. Unless the CCFL backlight requires 8.4v to sustain full brightness.

I wouldn't go with that assumption, especially considering that the Sony PSOne screen has a range of 7.2V to 9.0V. Not all voltage regulators have the same range. Lowering the voltage is not much of a threat, but trying a higher, especially 15V would have a chance of frying the screen.

I'm just guessing from experience with lots of different game screens. 8.5v is an odd voltage for a screen. I don't know of any screen controller IC or lcd module that runs at this voltage. Most lcd controller IC's run at 3.3v or 5v, except for the psone screens AN2526NFH video circuit witch oddly runs on 7.2-8v. I was just saying 6-15v as an example as 15v is the max input voltage of a 7805. Though its likely that the CCFL inverter runs on 8.5v directly.

You should be fine. Batteries tend to hold there voltages till they reach the 20% end of there charge.

thanks for the input guys, i have a question for those of you who have used the 3" pustom screen. the power input is 12 volts but how many does it actually need? thanks

I've used the Zate screen which is similar and I had it running off of 4 AA's, so I'm guessing it might run off of as low as 5v or 6v.
